TA-DA! Still things to do...

Part 1: Cleaning the actual  workroom is complete. This part wasn't too bad - mostly putting things away where they belong.

First half of right side

Second half of right side and half of end

Rest of end and part of left wall

End of left wall

From the door

Still have a box of papers to sort and file including income tax to be filed.

Then I have a box of MEE Sale papers and miscellany to sort through.

Then three shoeboxes of accessories to sort, bag and put on the bulletin boards.

Can see a light at the end of the tunnel!

Time to clean...

One of the best things about living alone is being able to spread my work all across the apartment. (Except the bedroom - that was one room  that Vern wanted free of miniatures - and I've kept that up.)

BUT, the worst thing about living alone is being able to spread my work all over! I had been quite proud of cleaning up after myself while I was working on the black and white living room but nonetheless, when it was finished, I had spread all over everywhere so my first step was to clean up the living room, kitchen counter and dining room.

Couch - I was working from here and had my miter-cutter, the saw
for that, my knife, my X-Acto knife and who knows what else -
Coffee table

Love seat

Kitchen counters

Back of dining room with the T2T display and the B&W living room.

Dining room table

Card table

Now the fun begins with the workroom:

All these things need to be transferred to the accessory bulletin boards.

As bad as it looks, I got some work done on it today and it's not as bad as I thought it would be.

But I do have to get some other things done such as filing income tax so between cleaning and income tax, it may be a couple days before I post again.

Declaring the Black and White Room Finished

The lamp is in and the third table is repaired and in place.

The third table is in place with a book and a pair of glasses. (from the right)

From the front

From the left

From above.

There are probably some accessories I could add but for now I'm stopping.

The lamp is not working but I'm too tired to try and find out what's wrong. It was working when I installed it and when I taped down the wires and glued the switch to the back right support but after I loaded the room, suddenly it wasn't.

Anyway, I'm going to put the glass front back in place and call it a day.

A lamp for the black and white room

Five years ago I made this lamp in a workshop that Tina M. gave at MEE.

I did add a square base to the lamp to stabilize it.

I was thrilled with it when it was finished and I tested it and it worked!

#&$% Then this morning I tried to get it working and (Oh No) it wouldn't!

I had 4 batteries that I tried in the battery holder and none worked.

Then I thought to try the batteries themselves.

And, indeed, two of them were dead but two did work.

So I put the first battery holder to the side and tried another and, yes, that one did work!

So now I have a working light.

Tomorrow (hopefully)  I will thread the wires through the floor and wire the switch through the base of the room.

I must admit I haven't checked that out yet so I'll see what happens tomorrow.

Just about finished

The table repair is NOT going well even though I made a jig to try to hold everything in place. Still working on it.

Decided to use this metal mesh to make a fireplace screen.

I cut it to size then painted it gold.
This is some molding from my stash that has a narrow slit that the metal mesh will fit into.

Painted the frame black

Added two bits of cove molding to the bottom to make it free standing then painted those black too.

Here it is in place.

This is driving me nuts. Everytime I try to centre this picture, it flies up to the top of the page. I found this lovely little folder of stationery in my stash - no idea where I got it - it has a beautiful pen in the fold. Added another gold pen, an adding machine and stapler.

Here it is so far.

In addition to the third table, I have a floor lamp that I made in one of Tina's classes that I want to add if I can ever get it to work.

Updating the wine rack/liquor table for the living room

Joanne phoned this morning and asked what I was doing to which I replied "just moving some liquor bottles from the penthouse bar to the black and white living room". You know, one of those conversations that makes perfect sense to us as miniaturists but could really seem a bit bizarre to anyone overhearing us.  Although that isn't quite as bizarre as hearing "Well, I just took the bodies out of the oven."

Anyway, sometime before I retired in 2007, the industrial arts teacher at Sir George Simpson School sent me the plans for this wine rack thinking I might want to make it in miniature, which I did. It originally had a flat black finish but for this room I added a gloss varnish.

I love coasters on furniture. It's lovely to be able to move things around with little effort. Unfortunately, I don't have them on much of my RL furniture but I can certainly have them on my miniature furniture!

Some time ago, Joanne gave me several of these desiccant cylinders. I've used them for several things such as kitchen canisters over the years. Here I've made an ice bucket by painting one gold and adding a black bead on top.

The top of the rack has a border around it. It contains the ice bucket, three liquor bottles, a water pitcher, two bottles of Coke, and three glasses from Victoria MiniLand.

Hanging from the glass rack are two silver and two crystal wine glasses.

Below that one the wine rack are five bottles of wine.

Filling the top shelf was easy as everything had a base of miniature moveable glue but filling the bottom with the wine glasses and wine bottles was a nightmare. One little shake of my hands and everything would go flying. But finally got everything in place....

And, miracle of miracles, got it placed in the living room.

Tomorrow, I hope to have the firescreen finished and the third table repaired.

Tonight, I'll tidy up from the last couple day's work. Once this project is finished, I have to do a BIG clean up. I have a couple hundred Ziploc bags of minis that have to be put on the bulletin boards. And while I was working on this, there were several times I had to search through 2 shoeboxes to find things I know I have but aren't on the bulletin boards.

What a difference~

Got thinking last night and decided to make one major change in the roombox.

I like this much more. Still need to repair the third table and add all the accessories.

Well, let's give it another try

I've put the fireplace back in the room and am going to do my best to make it work.

In the meantime, I'm working on a few other things for the room.

This beautiful desk as made by former MEE member, Gilbert Funk in February of 2004. I bought it from him at a meeting a few years ago.

Here it is opened. Although you can't see, along the back there is a six section shelf with a small drawer in the middle of the bottom.

For it to go in this room, I re-did it with black marker....and I love it! (I did leave Gilbert's signature and the date uncovered on the bottom of the desk.)

It will get stationery, pens, maybe a bank statement or two some eyeglasses

Tina M. did this chair as a kit for the club. It, too, is painted with black marker.

And here is has been given two coats of J.W. Wright gloss varnish.
I have a couple of Rosalle's afghans that I will probably hang over the back of the chair but haven't decided which one - or I may even commission one from her.

In 2007/8, I bought this set of nesting tables from Deana Suzanne Russo. It arrived broken so I just tucked in away (in a 'safe place' LOL) and forgot about it until now. I think I can make it work in this room.

Here are two of the tables done in black (left the bottoms so the signatures could still be seen.

I've done the other two pieces in black also but have to figure out how I will glue them together with those wild angles. Think I can manage it.

I have an amaryllis plant that I think will give one table a 'pop'. Also want to add a book, some wineglasses, an hors-d'oeuvres platter, and maybe a pair of glasses.

I also have a floor lamp that will work in this.

It's coming along.

SCREAM Oh, my, didn't take this into consideration......

All the more reason to be glad that the fireplace is easily removeable. I really wanted it in this so I could display the Neil Carter bronze from Joanne.

The depth of the room (8") doesn't allow for the furniture to be put in front of the fireplace in any figuration I can figure out with room for movement.

The best I get is 1" of movement between pieces.

So I think that the only way that I can get this to work is to ditch the fireplace (horror) and take it from there.

So I will take it out and think it from there.

Fireplace finished and in place

I over-painted the fireplace with the ivory paint and it softened the look enough that it worked against the wallpaper.

For the firebox, I used some plastic molded brick from Handley House. As you can see, I had to cut the back twice as the first didn't fit. I also cut another strip to go around the sides, top and bottom.

Here I've glued a piece of cardboard to the bottom of the fireplace so I can add the brick to the bottom and tile around it. I've clamped it in place to my large gluing jig for stability while I do that.

I have about 5 packages of these plastic tiles in my stash.

The bottom brick is in nd the first two tiles laid.

Here it is in place.

With the brick and tile in place. (The cardboard was trimmed and the raw edge painted with black marker.)

And with my Neil Carter bronze in place in the niche.

I can't believe what a beautiful, tight fit it is. Won't even have to glue it in place! So the wallpaper will remain intact if I ever decide to remove the fireplace.
