A Day of "Warm Fuzzies"

From the Urban Dictionary:

The warm, pleasant sensations one feels in the stomach and heart area when emotionally moved by an act of goodwill or love.
I have always found the day of our Miniature Show and Sale to be filled with warm fuzzies: even before I was involved in the actually running of the show and sale. You meet people (dealers and customers) over the years and it's great! Some you see often and others you see only once a year.
What a joy today was! I greet dealers after not seeing many of them for a year.
Alex and Sigal of Victoria Miniland who have made the transition from brick and mortar shop to online (two of our favourite people); Janice Crawley, IGMA Fellow, who does the most incredible porcelain pieces and celebrated a birthday last week. Janice actually looks younger every year!
Irene Skulmoski from Medicine Hat joined us for the first time.Great stuff in 1:12 and 1:48. Judy Mitchell of St. Albert was back as usual. Can't begin to describe all the wonderful and different things she brings to us!
Hoanie Yong (Live a Little Miniatures) is best know for her incredible Swarozvski chrystal chandeliers but she also offers a lot of other small items, including Christmas pieces. (Hoanie's daughter volunteered to help out with security and other things.)
What a joy to see Ms Mini, Sherrill Bedu and her husband Mike! They've had an incredibly hard year dealing with Sherrill's cancer. Sherrill had beautiful 1:12 costumed dolls and jewellery and lovely 1:48 items.

Bob Francis was there with his own table of, mostly, 1:48 items as well as representing NAME. Sylvia Pirnak was cleaning out her stash to our benefit. And our own Rosalle Pinske had all her wonderful crochet work, especially her angels which are great as tree toppers or table pieces.

Val Corraine from Calgary had wonderful dolls in crocheted outfits and other 1:12 items. Sherri MacRaild, also from Calgary, and a new IGMA artisan had the most incredibly beautiful items. She had some Noah's Arks that she had carved from wood that her father had given her from a boat he had made when she was a teenager and named for her.

Bev and Linda from Another World Miniatures (who taught our club workshop on Saturday) carry an extensive line of miniatures, fabric and findings.

Gwen Rice from Gibbons was new to our show with her fairy gardens with living plants. Club member Barb S. (Bits by Barb) had her own flowers, kits and the beautiful German laser cut kits.

Tina MacDonald, former president of MEE, had her own basketry, tableware, tons of fabric, wallpaper and carpets in 1:48.

Brenda Demone (Linda Austin's sister)  had her incredible pottery in both 1:12 and 1:48 plus wearable lockets (different on each side) both complete and the kits.

Linda Austin had many tools to make miniaturing easier plus lots of clearance items available.

And Luba Barnes had almost everything you could want: furniture, wallpaper, accessories, handmade items, tools, and a wonderful supply of old magazines and books.

It was a great sale! With a joy of dealers!

Saturday pre-show workshop

Sorry I didn't get around to posting yesterday. Took the day off from everything to rest from the weekend. Then last night had some bad family illness news about DS Sean's father-in-law, one of the best men I know. And today had more bad reports - a cousin with a very bad cancer diagnosis and DS Marie's father-in-law being flown out today or tomorrow for an angioplasty. Hard things to deal with...especially in a cluster like that.

When I posted Sunday night after the show, I had totally forgotten about the workshop that Linda and Bev from Another World Miniatures taught here on Saturday.

This is the prototype.

These are just random pictures from the workshop. That is real wine in the bottles and resin in the glasses.

Inger and Holly in the forefront and Bev in the background.

Tina, Loretta (visiting from Wisconsin), Lucille, Jillian and Joanne.

Lucille's 1:48 barber shop.
Workshop participants had lunch around noon and were finished and cleaned up by 1:30. Then Trineke and (new MEE member) Bev stopped by my place for awhile to see my displays and workroom.
A gift from Theresa.
Joanne picked me up at 4 and we packed up and headed off to the hotel. Had dinner with club members and dealers then off to bed.

Great Day of Warm Fuzzies!

What a joy today was! On so many levels! Many of which I will get into tomorrow!
But there were two of the special things that I want/need to share with you tonight.
Barbara W. came up to me today and thanked me for the blog and gifted me with a piece from Janice Crawley's table. What a joy and blessing! Thanks Barbara!
My Christmas Shop was awarded "Peoples' Choice Best Roombox". I'm thrilled and touched.
You would think that those would be enough "warm fuzzies" in one day but there are a lot more to come......tomorrow.

Probably the last post before the Show and Sale

I had a wonderful phone call tonight from Wendy W. in Calgary. Haven't heard from her in years! She and Sue are coming up for the Show and Sale on Sunday and actually be joining us for dinner in the hotel on Saturday night. Really pleased about that!

I was in such a rush to get everything done that I didn't take the pictures of the Bears' beds as I worked on them....but here they are:

And here are Papa, Mama and Baby:

My boxes ready to go to the Show and Sale:

MEE has a workshop by Another World Miniatures from Saskatoon on Saturday. I'll try and get pictures of that.

We have a member/dealer get-together on Saturday night so that's another picture opportunity!

I will TRY to get pictures of everything that's upcoming!

Whole new direction - RL

As I posted on Wednesday, this place was a MESS!!!! So, regardless of all the other RL demands on my life at this time (STARFest, Condo Board and the Show and Sale this coming weekend), I decided that it was definitely time to do some major cleaning and re-organizing. Got my bedroom, one bathroom and the storage/laundry room done then tackled the living room.

And here it is!

I gave my friend/fellow miniaturist, Jillian, three shelves of miniature magazines. That, and moving some of the miniature displays into the shelves in my workroom, emptied one entire bookshelf that I was able to give away.

Vern's urn, his angels, and pictures that were on the mantle of the fireplace were moved to the right hand corner cabinet. The TV stand that was formerly in front of the fireplace was sent to the "put and take" and the TV was moved to the mantle.
The Inuit art that was above the couch was moved to above the loveseat and this picture was added.
My friend and neighbour, Rosemary, gave me the curio cabinet (behind the lamp) which contains the miniatures moved from the corner cabinet that now contains the items that are Vern's memorial.

Now, I have to tackle the dining room and the workroom....but I'm feeling good about things so far.

Three Bears' House

One of the eave pieces was lost so after consideration, I decided to just replace two of them:

I needed an piece with a sink. Sorry, I got so involved in making it, that I forgot to take pictures :-(
This is the top of that piece: I traced the butter tub in place then sketched the smaller hole for the tub. I started cutting around the inner circle but since it's hard to cut a circle with a knife, I cut through a bit then cut out the centre (as below) and nibbled away at the rest of it. (Quite honestly, the hole still wasn't bit enough so I filed it out to size.)

Finished the sink piece, put the 'sink' in, added the pump, then glued a piece of ribbon in the front.

Joanne, bless her heart, gave me this stove/heater. It had feet but (1) they weren't quite even and (2) it was too high, so I removed them. The kettle is by Chrysnbon and is from my stash.
Here is the lower floor of the house:

And here is the sleeping area!

Still have to make the bedding but it's almost done!

What a mess!

This is going to be SO bad when Leanne picks me up to go to Uncle Gordon's memorial service on Thursday (tomorrow)!

I have everything scattered about, not only my workroom, but the dining room and two working table areas in the living room, plus all over the living room!

I generally try to tidy up before she comes but I'm trying to get the Three Bears' house finished; Vern's Attic finished...plus the lamp roombox is sitting on the dining room table.

In my mind, I know I will clear things up but Leanne is going to think that there is no hope for me.
