More on Bulletin Board Storage

Thanks so much to Indypoppy, Elisabeth S. and Ruth who commented on the bulletin board storage.

Not everyone is lucky enough to have the a closet  space that I do.

One thing that I have also done is attach bulletin boards to some of my shelving units with piano hinges. This actually has a double advantage in that it not only gives you extra storage, it 'helps' keep down the dust on the items on  the shelves themselves. (I have always been totally amazed at how comparatively inexpensive piano hinges are, even after you buy the screws to attach them when you buy the screws in bulk - not in those incredibly expensive blister packs.)

Here are two pictures where I attached two bulletin boards across the front of a bookcase:

Here you can see the piano hinge attaching the bulletin boards to the shelving unit.
Ruth asked about a 'clothes rack' to store the bulletin boards. This is a definite possibility...in fact, I have been thinking about this myself. I think that if you were lucky enough to find a commercial piece, it would be wonderful.

I Googled 'clothes rack' and found a couple household possibilities - 'garment rack' might be a better search. Once you find one, click on 'specifications' and hopefully, you'll find the weight load.

Two that I found were:

The Turbo Clothes Rack from Ikea $40.00 in Edmonton with a maximum load of 33 pounds. I weighed several of my filled bulletin boards and they weighed from 5 - 6 pounds so you could probably hang 5 - 6 filled bulletin boards from them. I think this one is great because it has a very broad, sturdy base.

WalMart has two racks but strangely enough the less expensive gets better reviews. But no weight specifications and I don't think that the base is sturdy enough to hold bulletin boards.

Hope this helps!

    1. Hi, luv. I talk a good game and occasionally come up with a good idea but if you could see my workroom, and dining room and living room right now, you wouldn't think too much of my storage 'skills'. The best you can say is that I have a horrible case of FSS (Flat Surface Syndrome) in that ever flat surface in the condo it covered with 'things'. LOL

Doubt very much that I'll make it to Australia but if I ever do, I'll certainly let you know!

  2. Yeah, I'll have to weigh the benefits of putting clothes racks in the basement of getting my Dad ( I can't even describe how often I do a happy dance that he is so enthusiastic about taking up carpentry as a hobby in his retirement and specifically building me miniature shadowboxes and shelves, which will be on sale at the mini show, by the way) to build me some peg boards to hang some stuff on the bedroom wall. Maybe a combination of both? I can't hang pegboards on the wall in the basement because the walls are concrete.
My only concern about putting garment racks in the basement is that they wont' stay put, they will roll all around! I'm sure I can talk to the store associates about that though. As for why the ones at Walmart got better reviews? A couple of possible reasons? Everything at walmart is dirt cheap, a lot people absolutely love that, I actually avoid walmart whenever I can as a political statement, since they have the worst record of human rights vilotions of any other chain store I've ever heard. (As just one example, in Canada, employees in one store wanted a Union, Walmart refused, closed down that store, and opened another one down the street to get around this pesky issue). I do shop there sometimes though, so I'm not claiming to be a saint, I do what I can though. Maueeen darling! I nominated you for the Liebster Blog award! Read about it more here:http://miniaturemavendiaries.blogspot.ca/2013/07/i-won-liebster-blog-award.html#.UegoBGTlqoY. I would love it if you'd just accept the award! It took me 3 days to track down 5 bloggers I could nominate. If you are nominated (and accept it, some bloggers don't want any awards, I've seen buttons on miniature blogs saying Award free blog). Any nominee you choose must have fewer than 200 followers, and answer 11 questions which you compose (you can leave this part out if you wish, I'd never seen this requirement before in the miniature bloggers I'd seen awarded with this award, but I was awarded the award by a non miniature blogger). I'm just about to post about a blogger giveaway I won. A wedding dress that is so gorgeous! And Felma, who has monthly giveaways for her gorgeous handmade gowns on her blog, gave me permission to use it in the bridal themed shadowbox I'm making for the show and sale. I was just over the moon when it arrived yesterday in the mail.
If you do accept the nomination for the award, why not nominate some Canadian bloggers you know of? I don't know many, but Elizabeth S. mentioned she did. You could ask her! Or ask the question on Canada Minis.

    1. Thanks, Ruth, for the nomination but I'm sorry I just don't have the time to deal with it right now. (I did Google it and found some very interesting information on how it has evolved over the years. http://sopphey.onimpression.com/2012/05/liebster-blog-award-origins.html

  3. Hi Maureen! I am,as usual, Wowed by your creativity and inventiveness. Plus I also am seriously impressed by your research! Weighing the bulletin boards fully loaded and then calculating the load bearing capabilities is so sensible and yet I would not have done that. I would have gone to where ever was the most convenient and or cheapest and taken my chances. I love it when the leg work is done and all I have to do is charge in and get what is recommended! I used your scouting previously, when you were talking about the big sale at Michael's with regard to the foam board. Yes, I went right down and got mine because of your recommendation. You are like a consumer researcher for miniaturists! Thank you for that! And as far as Canadian Miniaturists goes I know of 3 blogs from the east coast but they are all over 200 followers. But I am sure that you will be able to successfully research that out too, Maureen! ( smiles) I support your nomination for the
Libester Blog Award, Maureen. You are a winner in my books any day!

    1. Thanks Elizabeth! Years ago, I actually bought a garment rack (long gone) for holding clothes straight out of the clothes dryer. Like you, I tend to go for the cheapest/most convenient but after that experience, I knew that for the bulletin boards, it would have to have a strong, wide base and that it had to be sturdy enough to hold bulletin boards. (I only looked at the three mentioned - I'm sure there are others out there that would work but I felt the Ikea one best met the requirements for this particular use.
